Large electronic screens at concerts of U2, Spice Girls and Rolling Stones

At last I succeeded to find photos that show large LED and lamp screen application in concerts. The electronic screen is used not only as a large display for direct broadcasting of a concert, but also as a number of new approaches to the use of modern technologies. Electronic full color screens have recently been used during large scale feasts and shows, concerts with large scope of audience. This is one of most actively developed directions all over the world.

A vivid example of the electronic screens application is Rolling Stones concert in Moscow, 1998. What a wonder eye shaped electronic screen have they used! Spice Girls have also used a very good LED screen. Here are a few pictures demonstrating the compositional technologies of the lamp video screen, the LED screen and combined equipment. Electronic video screens were used not only as a large screen for direct broadcasting, but also as a number of new approaches to the usage of up-to-date technologies in concerts.

Here are the photos of U2 tour around American cities. They made use of three huge electronic lamp screens (16x12 meters and more than 600 sq. meters each). They assembled the screens right at the place of their location, for example, at the stadiums, for the concert time, then disassembled and took them to the next city - 62 concerts!

A successful concert was held in Moscow in August, 1997. It was displayed on the outdoor lamp screen installed at Poklonnaya Gora. This show was organized by Philips in cooperation with our technical group. The outdoor lamp screen was also used as a “participant” of the live concert and show. The direct broadcasting of the concert (musical tracks) was combined with advertizing and view scenes. Of course this action conceded to U2 shows, but it has undoubtedly showed that the realization of the similar project in Russia is already possible.

The lamp screens that have the most effective price, quality and opportunities are a new kind of city outdoor advertising and are all-weather systems of outdoor video, but not only that. It is possible to create inexpensive (in comparison with other technologies) huge outdoor screens on its basis. It will exercise astonishing influence on the spectators and great concert. Such huge electronic screens are capable of working effectively and creating images that remain firmly in everybody’s memory. They are especially good for big concerts, stadiums large scale affairs with the great number of viewers.

If we correlate “price” with “opportunity”, the newest lamp screens are incomparable now if big or even huge size (as the screens for U2 concerts) is needed, and they will remain so at least 5-7 years. And they are absolutely worthy especially for large concerts, actions and performances (even of regional or urban scale) or during election campaigns and especially sports matches and competitions. We live in a very interesting time - the New Century and New Millennium are coming soon. We shall see what will happen, but many things depend on what is going on now.
