Issue #2/2007 LED addiction!Prometeus so severely punished by Gods could never imagine what a race for "light" he started by handing over fire to mankind. The modern sophisticated man demands more and more lights and color, light shows and illumination. The full-color LED technology finally offers everything at once. But where can the tawdry LED screens and LED signs be used primarily, considering their prohibitive prices? Naturally, in places where people come to spend loads of money – near casinos. We visited some of the worlds famous gambling areas and prepared a short photo essay. The well-known gambling “reservations” Las-Vegas (USA) and Macao (China) are full of video LED screens, video LED signs and LED illumination. Moscow is a city with the largest concentration of casinos in the world. Therefore, we decided that it is worthwhile comparing these three gambling capitals in this month’s issue.
It’s interesting that with time, LED screens have become a part of the company style. For example, casino complex Wynn clones all its hotels together with video LED screens.
By now video LED screens have become a regular part of city landscape. Therefore, designers come up with unusual shapes (concave structures), by new technical functions (screens with moving parts) or gigantic sizes.
While Moscow and Chinese entertainment complexes prefer rather traditional and simple shapes of video LED screens (mostly of 3:4 format), the US engineers have no restrictions in an attempt to outperform competitors by unusual shapes and functions. The need to offer advertising to everyone and not to lose customers created a fashion on double-sided LED screens that display information aimed at people on both sides of the street.
It may seem that casinos are rich enough and don’t need additional “pocket” money. However, the LED screens at casinos promote not only their facilities and shows but also sell advertising time to exclusive and expensive brands. Every penny counts.
In fact, this is one more reason why the neon installations around gambling houses disappear to be replaced by LEDs. Neon attracts by bright colors, and LED screens and signs are equally bright but offer variable content as value added.
A nice collections of photos taken at various entertainment complex in Las Vegas and Macao.
We wonder what LED screens will appear in four Russian gambling areas that were recently designated by the Russian government! Copyright ©1996-2010 VK E-mail: screens@screens.ru
